“Jacobi de Villiers is a consistent powerhouse voice and presence on stage…”
CAPE ARGUS, Rafiek Mammon
Jacobi de Villiers completed her post-graduate Diploma in Opera Performance under George Stevens and Kamal Khan at the South African College of Music in 2016, with distinction. These studies followed after six years with Cape Town Opera’s Chorus, which she had joined in 2009 after the completion of a Masters degree in Drama at the University of Stellenbosch.
During her time with Cape Town Opera, Jacobi formed part of numerous local and international productions such as Porgy & Bess, African Angels, Show Boat and Mandela Trilogy.
Highlights of her career include being cast in William Kentridge’s production The Refusal of Time, in which she performed as a soloist at the Comédie-Française in Paris, the Volkstheater in Vienna and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg.
In local opera productions, Jacobi has sung the roles of the Third Lady in Magic Flute, one of the step-sisters, Tisbe in La Cenerentola (Cinderella), Flora in La Traviata, the housekeeper Marcellina in The Marriage of Figaro, the maid Anna in Maria Stuarda, the Page in Salome, the old woman Zita in Gianni Schicchi and the queen of the underworld, Proserpina in L’Orfeo.
Following the completion of her post-graduate Diploma in Opera Performance in 2016 Jacobi continues her training under Berlin-based dramatic soprano Allison Oakes, with periodic visits to Berlin.
Jacobi is currently seen in regular concerts and oratorios, most recently as the Alto in Handel’s Messiah and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
